When you think of a community booster, you think of Lana Farfán. When you think of a business booster you think of Lana Farfán. And when you think of a Long Beach Booster, well yes, Lana Farfán! Lana is the 2024 recipient of the Naples Island Business Association’s Ken Cassidy Award.
Lana and her husband Salvador live on Naples and own Caught in the Moment Photography, a business they started 24 years ago. It has grown from a traditional local photographer doing weddings and family portraits to a national business that provides photographic and video services for conventions, conferences and events. She has served on the NIBA Board since 2012 and spearheaded such events as the children’s area at Naples Fest. For NIA, she and Salvador have photographed many a community event, including this year’s Holiday Awards and Community Celebration. They have been generous community partners over the years and Lana particularly enjoys photographing Naples families for local publications and getting to know her neighbors and fellow business owners better.
For the city, she has been involved with the Long Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau for over 20 years, now comprised of Visit Long Beach and Meet Long Beach where Lana serves as a founding board member. She was involved with the planning of Sea Fare at the Aquarium of the Pacific for 10 years and served on the board for Musica Angelica for 8 years. In 2016, Assemblyman Patrick O’Donnell presented Lana with the Women of Distinction Award.
Their son Benjamin is now a sophomore at UC Berkeley and Sofia is graduating from Poly High School and poised to start university on the East Coast to study musical theatre.
This award is in memory of one of our long-time NIBA members, Ken Cassidy. Before his untimely passing, Ken owned Pygmalion Salon spent over 30 years on Naples as not only a business owner but a business consultant. He traveled around the country doing presentations on how to run a successful small business. His enthusiasm for Naples was unbounding and this award is presented in his honor annually at the NIA Awards and Celebration Dinner.
